浮躁的大学，浮躁的社会中很难留下成长和讨论的空间和时间，讨论一下事情可能没有那个机会。但是有些东西你们是需要了解的---我目前在海南，应该帮助你们了解的。

——当代中国知识分子的使命

亲爱的清华经管学院2010届毕业班的同学们：
今天，我非常荣幸能作为演讲嘉宾出席清华大学经济管理学院的毕业典礼。大约一个月前，钱颖一院长邀请我时，我当时是一种很矛盾的心态。一方面，我确有一些思考和体验想和同学们交流;另一方面，我缺少和高校学生，特别是80后的年轻一代沟通思想的经验，不知道我所关注的问题是否能为你们理解和认同。尽管如此，我还是鼓起勇气来了。
我算是共和国同龄人的一代，经历了改革开放前后两个30年。在这60年中，中国社会发生了重大的变化。作为一个长期在大型企业和金融机构工作的管理者，我的关注点从企业管理、宏观经济逐步扩展到社会问题及相关的制.度和价值。在思想认识上我也走过了信.仰——困惑——独.立思考——不断寻求真.理的路径。
我想先从大学的功能、大学教育、大学学生的使命谈起。关于大学的功能，在欧美曾经历了精英教育——专业人才培养——通识教育这样一个复归的过程，这一过程反映出人们对大学功能、大学教育、大学学生使命的再认识。简而言之，大学不仅是传授专业知识，培养专业人才的场所，它还是文.明传承和发扬的载体;大学学生进入社会后不仅要成为一个有专业知识、有职业道.德的专业人士，同时要有对普.世价值担当的意识和公共关怀的责任。
公共关怀是公共知识分子的责任和使命，他们要超越自己的专业领域，抵制世俗和权力的诱.惑，秉承普.世价值，在公共领域中维护人的尊严和社会正义，在经济发展的同时，建立起道.德、精神和文化的价值支柱。
精神价值的缺失和重建在当代是一个全球性的问题，但在不同的国家、不同的社会发展阶段这个问题的表现是不同的。当今的中国正在经历一场深刻的社会转型。我们所讲的社会转型不是中国语境中的“现代化建设”、“国强民富”、“大国崛起”，而是现代性社会的构建。现代性社会是相对于传统社会而言的，它的主要标志是以“启.蒙价值”，即自.由、理性、个人权利为价值支撑的，以市场经济、民.主政治、法.治社会为制度框架的民族国家。
发端于17世纪欧洲的启蒙运动是人对神的“叛逃”和“祛魅”。在摆脱了精神上的束缚以后，人可以运用自己的理性保护个人的权利，实现个人的自.由。在此以后的几百年中，以自.由、理性和个人权利为核心的“启.蒙价值”成为推动人类社会从传统走向现代的精神力量，成为现代性社会的价值基础。当代“普.世价值”就是“启蒙价值”经过人们几百年的认识和实践演化而成的。 还有下篇
